Israel trip update: On Sunday, we wended our way up to Jerusalem, stopping en route to learn about the siege of the city during the War of Independence and to pay tribute to the women and men who lost their lives to break it.
Late that night, we walked through the Jaffa Gate and wandered the ancient streets to the kotel. Even at 11 p.m., hundreds of Jews from across the world were there, in prayer, in awe, or both. Especially after Poland, our hearts needed the healing power of the most important site in our national history.
After a morning exploring the city, we again gathered at the kotel, this time for a very special occasion, the bat mitzvot of three members of our travelling family who had never experienced this simcha. Streicker Center's group made it from Poland to Israel in time for Shabbat last week. Read their update below!
We arrived in Israel where we welcomed Shabbat with joy and laughter.
On Saturday, we relaxed and explored the Crater itself on foot, by ATV and by jeep and rejoiced in the wonders of our vibrant country. We paid our respects to its founding father, David Ben Gurion, at the simple home he created on a small kibbutz in the desert.
And we ended Shabbat with our own special Havdalah ceremony, blessing the wine, spices and a beautiful braided Havdalah candle - simultaneously counting our own blessings as we move on to Jerusalem. ... See MoreSee Less
