Broadway has seen its share of smash hits based on books: Les Mis’erables,Wicked, Matilda, to name a few. Then there is Hamilton: An American Musical, which is on track to become one of the biggest critical and commercial hits in Broadway history.

Based on the book Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow, Hamilton: An American Musical received eleven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and sixteen Tony nominations – the most in Broadway history. Beyond the awards, Hamilton redefines how an American musical can look and sound.

Join us as we explore the roots and development of Hamilton: An American Musical directly with Ron Chernow, the author of the book that started a theatrical revolution centuries after the American Revolution. Learn about Alexander Hamilton’s extraordinary life and how it inspired the musical.

Ron Chernow is a writer, journalist, historian and biographer. Prior to his current fame for Alexander Hamilton, Mr. Chernow won a Pulitzer Prize for Washington: A Life, a National Book Award for The House of Morgan: An American Banking Dynasty and the Rise of Modern Finance and was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award for Titan: The Life of John D. RockefellerAlexander Hamilton received the George Washington Book Prize and was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award. Mr. Chernow consulted with Lin-Manuel Miranda as the book was adapted for the stage.

Brandon Victor Dixon was nominated for two Tony Awards, one for his portrayal of Harpo in the Broadway production of The Color Purple and the other for his portrayal of Eubie Blake in Shuffle Along. He also received a Grammy nomination for his portrayal of Berry Gordy in the Broadway production of Motown: The Musical.  Mr. Dixon took over the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway production of Hamilton in August 2016.

Javier Muñoz had been performing as the alternate for the role of Alexander Hamilton in the original Broadway production of Hamilton, playing the lead when President Obama and his family attended the show. He took over the starring role full time from Mr. Miranda in July and currently stars as the lead in the production.
