Series ticketholders will receive the same seat assignments for all three concerts.
The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center takes you on a musical journey from Broadway to Hollywood and back again to the Great White Way with the greatest songs ever written for the stage and screen —all by Jewish composers.
In a three-part series created especially for us by Scott Siegel (Town Hall’s signature Broadway by the Year), leading Broadway and nightclub stars will celebrate the iconic tunes that brought the Jewish American songbook to life, putting its indelible stamp on the popular culture of our country and the world.
NIGHT ONE: Jewish Broadway
Monday, November 12
The music of Broadway has long dominated the sound of America—its legends and anxieties, romances and dreams—from the hills that came alive in The Sound of Music to the larger-than-life matchmaker Dolly Levi.
South Pacific, The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof, A Chorus Line, The Producers, Rent, Dear Evan Hansen, Les Misérables, Guys and Dolls, My Fair Lady, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, The Band’s Visit. Jewish music is at the very heart of America’s cultural landscape.
Take a trip down the Jewish musical memory lane with Broadway and nightclub singers reminding us of the sound of our music, with:
FARAH ALVIN (Drama Desk Nominee)
CHRISTINA BIANCO (2X Drama Desk Nominee)
CHUCK COOPER (Tony Award Winner)
LISA HOWARD (2X Drama Desk Award Winner)
WILLIAM MICHALS (Emile De Beque in Lincoln Center Production of South Pacific)
BRIAN CHARLES ROONEY (The Three-Penny Opera)
[*Cast Subject to Change]
NIGHT TWO: Jewish Oscars ®
Monday, February 11
Tinseltown was invented by Sam Goldfish (born Shmuel Gelbfisz), who teamed up with his brother-in-law, Jesse L. Lasky, to make the first feature film.
Along with Jewish studio bosses, actors, actresses, writers and directors, Jewish composers created much of Hollywood’s magic. Think “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head,” “The Way We Were,” “If I Didn’t Have You,” “The Look of Love,” “What’s New Pussycat.”
Now you won’t just think about these iconic tunes… you can enjoy the works of Alfred Newman, Randy Newman, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Alan Menken, Marvin Hamlisch, Barbra Streisand, Stephen Sondheim… performed by Broadway and nightclub singers.
Cast to be announced.
NIGHT THREE: Jewish TONYs
Monday, June 3
Maybe we shouldn’t brag, but more than 60 percent of all Tonys ever awarded for musical production have gone to Jewish composers, lyricists and librettists! Richard Rodgers, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Jerry Herman, Harvey Fierstein . . . the list goes on and on.
So whether you want to Damn Yankees, enjoy some Cabaret, or missionize with Mormons in Uganda, our special celebration of the Jewish Tonys will be your evening’s delight as Broadway and nightclub singers remind us of the rich tradition of Jews on the musical Great White Way.
Cast to be announced.
