Abraham. Moses. King David.
What do they have in common—beyond divine covenants and leadership roles of biblical proportions? Each has been tried in the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center courtroom. Now, a woman is about to get her day in court . . . 5,778 years in the making . . .
You are subpoenaed to serve on the jury as Eve stands trial for crimes against humanity. After all, she ate explicitly forbidden fruit, coerced Adam to do the same and got them both (and everyone else to come) expelled from the Garden of Eden.
Our proceedings will begin with a review of the facts of the case by Rabbi Prof. Tamara Cohn Eskenazi, PhD. You will then enter the “courtroom,” where Alan Dershowitz and former US Senator and Attorney General of New Hampshire Kelly Ayotte will serve, respectively, as defense counsel and prosecutor. Presiding over the trial will be the Honorable United States District Judge Ronnie Abrams, who will instruct you, the jury, on what you may and may not consider before you vote guilty or not guilty on the most primal crime against humanity.
Prosecutor: Kelly Ayotte, U.S. Senator (2011–2017); Attorney General of New Hampshire (2004–2009)
Defense: Alan Dershowitz, Harvard Professor of Law, Emeritus
Honorable US District Judge: Ronnie Abrams
