Last night, Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman, Ph.D, spoke to a sold-out Skirball audience about one of the most central High Holiday prayers, Avinu Malkeinu. Introducing his brand new book, Naming God, Rabbi Hoffman reminded that God’s many different characterizations provide insight into Jewish history and shed light on the modern evolution of the concept of God. Rabbi Hoffman is the author of several popular and scholarly books about Judaism and has taught at Hebrew Union College since 1973.
