Yesterday’s Israel Day celebration on Fifth Avenue gave us many reasons to celebrate the arrival of summer at Temple Emanu-El. Sunday’s lively event was co-sponsored by Lifelong Learning, Young Families, Nursery School, Women’s Auxiliary, Men’s Club, Saviv and Skirball.

Though the rain nearly kept us hiding inside, the sun won out leaving lots of room for falafel, friends, family and fun. D.J. Ann kept the Israeli spirit strong on our roof while guests noshed and our youngest friends kept everyone entertained.

Find out about the Golden Age of Yiddish filmmaking and the prevailing American melting pop culture of the 40’s in an interactive class with Dr. Eric Goldman, a preeminent Jewish film historian and scholar.

Then on FEBRUARY 12, meet and hear from young graduates of Jerusalem’s Ma’aleh School, the world’s only film school devoted to positive and careful representation of the Jewish condition. Three rising first-time directors will present their distinctly contemporary Jewish realities for a night of Israeli Cinema.
